The Indoor Garden – Vegetables and Herbs from Home
We all know what a garden is. First, we think of beautiful flowers, fruit trees laden with fruit, growing vegetables, all under the open sky in nature. This is often not possible in a city because there simply isn't enough space. And that's why many city dwellers don't have a garden, even though they'd love to. Indoor gardens offer a solution to this problem. With them, you can experience having your own plants even without a garden.
What is an indoor garden?
Often, an indoor garden is associated with a herb garden on the windowsill. But an indoor garden is much more. In short, it's the possibility of growing vegetables, herbs, and microgreens indoors. Flowers, fruits, and mushrooms are also conceivable. Compared to a normal garden, an indoor garden requires much less space and can be placed anywhere in the home. Smaller indoor gardens can be placed on a table. Larger ones can even stand on the floor. Another space-saving variant hangs on the wall. So, an indoor garden can be anywhere in your home.
But if the garden is indoors, how can anything grow?
Here's how it works
Indoor gardens use hydroponics. You can learn more about hydroponics in our article on the topic. In short, the plants can draw their necessary water from a reservoir themselves. This means you don't have to water the plants every day; instead, you fill up water and possibly nutrients once and then have peace for the next few days. This makes the system particularly attractive for people who easily forget to water their plants or are rarely home.
Furthermore, there's no dirt because the plants grow in capsules instead of soil. The capsules consist of a nutrient-enriched substrate, ensuring the plant is optimally supplied. This also simplifies planting, as you simply insert the plant capsule into the indoor garden.
Finally, plants also need light to grow. At first, this seems difficult to imagine, because how is light supposed to get into an enclosed space? At this point, the developers of indoor gardens have thought ahead and installed so-called sun LEDs. This ensures that the plants in the indoor garden always get enough light to continue growing.
