Spider mite infestation
Have you ever noticed that the plants in your homefarm are covered in fine light speckles, or that there are red to yellow discolorations on the undersides of the leaves? Then you probably have a spider mite infestation. But don't worry, there are a few simple steps you can take to get rid of these annoying culprits.
How can you recognise a spider mite infestation?
- Leaf surfaces covered in fine light speckles
- Small webs (more visible when sprayed with an atomiser / spray bottle)
- Red to yellow discoloration along the underside of the leaf
- Small spider-like creatures (red, green, yellow), clearly visible with a magnifying glass

If you find a spider mite infestation, you can simply take the affected plants out of the homefarm and rinse the plant under lukewarm water. Repeat this treatment over several days to make sure all the spider mites are eliminated. Another option is to repeatedly spray the plants with a mixture of two drops of tea tree oil in 100 ml of water.
In summary, spider mites can be an annoying culprit in your home garden, but they can be eliminated with simple measures such as rinsing or spraying with tea tree oil. Make sure you repeat these measures over several days to ensure the spider mites are removed completely.
