    Plant-derived capsules

Nothing works without our plant capsules — they are the heart of the homefarm. Our purpose-built plant capsules contain all the important nutrients as well as the seeds of the greens in question, or you can go for the experimentation capsules and fill them with seeds of your own. Simply place the plant capsules into your homefarm and the rest happens automatically. And all of it is 100% peat-free, 100% plastic-free and 100% pesticide-free.

Frequently asked questions about our plant capsules

We've invested a great deal in research and development for the plant capsule material, so it remains our trade secret. But one thing we can say: the plant capsules are peat-free, sustainable and 100% biodegradable.

The plant capsules absorb only the amount of water they need, which helps prevent mold from forming. In addition, the homefarm is equipped with targeted air holes so the air can circulate. Furthermore, the plants are covered in order to prevent mold and algae growth.

Yes, we avoid all chemical agents so you can eat even healthier with your own plants and don't have to worry about pesticides. The plant capsules are made from 100% natural materials, so you can enjoy your greens without washing them.

That depends on both the plant variety and your harvesting habits. As a rule of thumb, annual plants no longer regrow after the main harvest period and therefore need to be replaced. Perennial plants regrow after harvesting and have a longer lifespan.

    Our Plant capsules

When you order a salad or herbs from us, you get a package of plant capsules. You simply place them in your homefarm. But have you ever wondered what the plant capsule is made of? The plant capsule basically consists of two components. The base is a substrate. This substrate, which is made of coconut fibers, also contains all the nutrients your plants need. Inside the plant capsule are the seeds of the respective greens. The plant capsule is sealed with a cork and the urbanhive label. You remove both when planting – and the fun can begin.
