Growing is really easy with the plant capsules:

Simply place the capsule in one of your free plant baskets and in just a few weeks you can enjoy your first harvest.

Thanks to the special design of the plant basket, the capsule always receives just the right amount of water. So your plant can neither dry out nor get overwatered.

The lettuce can be harvested completely after 4-5 weeks. If the heart of the leaves is left intact, the leaves can sprout again.

Hand-picked seed selection

When hand-picking our seeds, we look for organic seed stock that gives the plants a full-bodied flavor and makes them very easy to digest. We rely on top seed quality and regional sourcing. Before the seeds finally make it into our range, they are extensively tested by our plant teams.

Insert and enjoy

With the capsules, the seeds meet their perfect environment. The capsules are made of natural materials and are peat-free. They have an ideal pH value and are free from pesticides, fungicides and all that other stuff. Best of all, they permanently keep their shape. For complete convenience, we make sure they come pre-enriched with mineral fertilizer and even contain the seeds. That's why we fill them ourselves at our site in Münster/ Hiltrup.

Healthier and fresher

30 seconds

Growing with the homefarm, harvesting and eating right away gives your herbs, Microgreens and salads many times more nutrients. It can even be up to 70 times more. This also has a positive effect on taste and freshness.

Weeks

Herbs from the supermarket have often been on a long journey after harvest or are overloaded with fertilizers. On top of that come temperature fluctuations, storage times and stress. All of this has a negative impact on nutrients, taste and freshness.

urbanhive plants: 4x longer life, 99% less plastic, a plant capsule lasts 4–6 months. Supermarket potted herbs last 4 weeks at most.

Long harvest period vs. a wilting plastic pot

The capsule technology of the homefarm gives your plants a very long lifespan. Compared to herb pots from the supermarket, it is on average 4 times as long.

More sustainable

Making a big difference together

A positive impact on people and
nature, one plant at a time. The plant capsules and the homefarm make for a highly sustainable way of growing.

So far, the urbanhive community has saved 9,000,000 transport kilometers, 288,000 liters of water and 0.2 tonnes of single-use plastic.

And that is just the beginning. The more people join in, the bigger the impact. Above all, people have been able to marvel at the wonder of nature day and night in their own homes and watch a tiny seed grow into an edible, flavorful plant.

Mizuna – the mild, peppery leafy green from Japan

Mizuna (*Brassica rapa var. nipposinica*) is a traditional leafy green from Japan and belongs to the brassica family. The fine, serrated leaves have a mild pepperiness with a slight mustard note, making mizuna an exciting ingredient for salads, stir-fries or as a side. Particularly practical: mizuna grows quickly and can be harvested several times – perfect for the homefarm or minifarm!

Can mizuna be eaten raw?

Yes, mizuna can be eaten raw and is especially popular in salads or as a garnish. The young leaves have a mild, peppery aroma and a crisp texture. Older leaves are more intense in flavour and are excellent in stir-fries or as an addition to soups.

Flavour and use

Mizuna impresses with a unique taste somewhere between rocket and pak choi. The tender leaves are highly versatile – raw, steamed or briefly fried. Mizuna goes particularly well with Asian flavours such as soy sauce, ginger or sesame oil.

If you're looking for a tasty recipe, take a look at the urbanhive app or try a fresh mizuna salad with a light lemon dressing. Simply combine mizuna with cucumber, carrots and spring onions, drizzle with lemon juice and olive oil and finish with sesame seeds – a perfect, healthy dish for any occasion!
